When was the first artificial heart implanted in a human? What does the space program have to do with artificial organs? Can an artificial gill allow humans to live like fish? A Beas can live for long periods of time without kidneys, can a human? What are the physical obstacles for using artificial organs? Answers to these and other questions will be heard at an upcoming symposium sponsored by The National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the International Center for Medical Technology at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. The sponsors cordially invite you and your high school students to attend this symposium on “Artificial Body Parts” to be held Wednesday, December 7, 2005 in the Lister Hill Auditorium at the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD.
The Symposium will bring together the top scientists and medical doctors in the organ and transplant field to discuss advances in research. Students will be able to ask questions of the speakers following their individual presentations and to explore health exhibits in the Lister Hill lobby prior to and following complimentary lunch.
We hope that you will be able to put this date on your calendar. We would be honored to have you and your students participate in this unique and fascinating symposium. To attend, please contact:
