1.0 ORGANIZATION
1.1 The International Academy for Artificial Organ Pioneers (hereinafter known as "IAAOP" or the "Academy") is one of the officially approved activities of the ICMT (International Center for Medical Technologies). All the activities of the Academy are to be governed and approved by the Board of Trustees of the ICMT.
1.2 The ICMT is registered with the State of Texas as a non-taxable, non-profit charitable organization.
1.3 The other ICMT activities include the ICMT Museum for Artificial Organs (inclusive of the ICMT Press) and the International Faculty for Health and Medical Technologies.
2.0 OBJECTIVES
2.1 The primary purpose of the Academy is to recognize and honor as members of the Academy those individuals who have made innovative and seminal contributions to the field of artificial organs.
2.2 The second objective of the Academy is to assemble and maintain historically important archives of these recognized members of the Academy. The primary activities within this object shall be carried out by the ICMT Museum for Artificial Organs.
2.3 The third objective of the Academy is to create a focus for these Academy members and others to provide a stronger framework for new research and development of medical device technologies, education for the future generation, and linkage to patients and societies for the advancement of artificial organ technologies. The primary activities within this objective shall be carried out by the International Faculty for Health and Medical Technologies of the ICMT.
3.0 MEMBERSHIP
3.1 The founding members of the Academy were elected on the 8th of November, 2002 at the official opening of the ICMT Museum.
3.2 The members of the Academy are elected from among the individuals who contributed to the advancement of artificial organ technologies. Member nomination shall be made by one of the deans together with three members of the Academy.
3.3 The Executive Committee chaired by the deans of the Academy shall elect members of the Academy and be further approved by the Board of Trustees of the ICMT.
3.4 Election of members of the Academy may include post-humous elections.
4.0 OFFICERS
4.1 The Academy is managed by the dean elected by the executive committee of the Academy. The dean will be the chairman of the executive committee of the Academy. Since medical technologies involve not only medical but also engineering aspects, two deans, one representing medical affairs and another representing engineering affairs, will be appointed.
4.2 The executive committee of the Academy is composed of the dean, associate deans, assistant deans, and an executive director, as well as the representative(s) of the board of trustees of ICMT.
4.3 The associate dean is appointed from the representatives of artificial organ related societies.
4.4 The assistant dean is appointed from the Academy members representing a specific field of artificial organ technology.
4.5 The number of the executive committee members of the Academy shall not exceed twenty individuals.
4.6 The final approval of the officers of the Academy shall be made by the board of trustees of the ICMT.
4.7 The term of the officers of the Academy shall be for 2 years, the term starting January 1 and continuing through December 31st of the following year. However, the appointments for multiple terms shall be accepted if approved by the ICMT board of trustees.
5.0 MEETINGS AND ACTIVITIES
5.1 An executive committee meeting shall be held at least once a year.
5.2 The Academy shall organize a scientific meeting with specific and/or general objectives of the Academy at least every two years.
5.3 Financial support of the Academy is primarily provided by the ICMT; however, it will not negate any individual fund raising activities of the Academy.
